The available choices are generated from the taxonomies registered on your website, so they can vary depending on your content types and active plugins.

Slideshow

Enable Slideshow to display the taxonomy terms as a horizontal carousel instead of a regular grid. This can be useful when you want to present a larger collection of terms without using as much vertical space.

Additional slideshow controls include:

Navigation Arrows – display controls for manually moving between slides.

Navigation Pills – display pagination indicators for navigating between groups of terms.

Autoplay – automatically advance the slideshow and configure the interval between transitions.

Pagination

Pagination can be enabled when the taxonomy query contains more terms than should be displayed at once. This lets visitors access additional terms without requiring the complete taxonomy collection to be shown in the initial layout.

Supported pagination behaviour includes Infinite Scroll, which automatically retrieves additional terms as the visitor progresses through the listing.

Limit Terms

Set the maximum number of taxonomy terms displayed by the initial query. This is useful when you want to keep the section focused on a limited selection instead of displaying every available term at once.

Ordering

Control how the returned taxonomy terms are sorted. Available ordering options let you determine which terms appear first and how the final collection is arranged.

Include & Exclude Terms

Explicitly include or exclude individual taxonomy terms when the block should display only a curated subset of the available results.

Level

Control which part of a hierarchical taxonomy should be queried. Depending on the current context, this can be used to display all applicable terms, parent-level terms or terms associated with the current item.

Hide Empty Taxonomies

Enable this option to exclude terms that do not currently have any associated content. Disable it when empty terms should remain visible as part of the taxonomy structure.

Using Dynamic Data

The Advanced Taxonomies block can be combined with Blocksy’s Dynamic Data block to build richer layouts for individual taxonomy terms.

When Dynamic Data is used in an Advanced Taxonomies context, additional term-specific sources become available:

Term Title – display the taxonomy term’s name.

Term Description – display the description assigned to the term.

Term Image – display an image associated with the term where the required taxonomy-image functionality is available.

Term Count – display the number of posts, products or other entries assigned to the term.

This makes it possible to create more informative taxonomy cards instead of relying only on a simple term name and link.

Custom Queries

Developers can modify the query generated by an individual Advanced Taxonomies block when the built-in controls are not sufficient. Each block exposes a unique Block ID that can be used to target a specific instance from a PHP filter.

See Custom Queries for Advanced Taxonomies blocks for an implementation example.

The Advanced Taxonomies block lets you display taxonomy terms as a customisable grid or slideshow directly inside the WordPress block editor.
