How to Translate Blocksy

Blocksy is fully translation-ready and uses WordPress’ standard localisation system. The Blocksy theme, Blocksy Companion and Blocksy Companion Pro can all be translated into your preferred language using standard translation tools.

If you would like to contribute translations for everyone, you can use the community translation platforms described below. If you only need a translation for your own website, tools such as Loco Translate or Poedit can be used instead.

Contributing Community Translations

The free Blocksy theme and Blocksy Companion plugin are distributed through WordPress.org, so their community translations are managed through the official WordPress translation platform.

Blocksy Theme

You can contribute translations for the Blocksy theme through the Blocksy translation project on WordPress.org.

Select your language to view its current translation status and contribute any strings that are still missing. You will need a free WordPress.org account to submit translations.

Blocksy Companion

Translations for the free Blocksy Companion plugin are managed separately through the Blocksy Companion translation project on WordPress.org.

The process is the same as for the theme – choose your language, open the appropriate translation set and submit translations for the available strings.

Using the WordPress.org Translation Platform

Each WordPress.org translation project provides an overview of the available languages and their current completion status.

The completion percentage shows how much of the project has already been translated for each language. Languages with incomplete translations can be improved by community contributors.

After selecting a language, open the relevant translation set to view the available strings. You can then enter your translations directly through the WordPress.org interface.

Submitted translations may require approval from the translation editors responsible for that WordPress locale before they become part of an official language pack.

Translating Blocksy Companion Pro

Blocksy Companion Pro is a commercial plugin and is therefore not distributed through the WordPress.org plugin repository. Its community translations are managed through our own GlotPress installation instead.

Visit https://translate.creativethemes.com/ and select the Blocksy Companion Pro project to get started.

Choose your language and open the available translation set to begin translating strings. Submitted translations are reviewed before being incorporated into Blocksy Companion Pro.

If you already maintain a translation in a .po file, GlotPress also supports importing those translations into the project. Imported strings remain subject to the same review process as translations submitted through the web interface.

Translating Blocksy for Your Own Website

You do not need to contribute your translation publicly if you only want to customise the wording used on your own website.

Loco Translate provides a convenient way to create and manage translations directly from the WordPress Dashboard. It can scan the available translation strings and generate the required translation files without requiring separate desktop software.

If you prefer working offline, applications such as Poedit can be used to edit standard WordPress .pot and .po translation files.
